Guys, I don't even know where to start. I could post an entire treatise on how much I love this character. From a writing standpoint, I've always been amazed that LOST created a villain who was so vulnerable and easy to sympathize with. He could have easily been a caricature and straight evil, but instead he was written as someone who was always struggling to find a place for himself, always trying to win the approval of Jacob. Not to mention, he was a father, and his love for Alex was obvious in how broken he was after her death.
Of course he is still evil. He's done bad things. But there's so much more to his character, and that's why I love him.
I remember when we first met Henry Gale in season two, and I didn't trust him or even really like him (just like I was supposed to), but at the same time I found him intriguing. And then in season three we learned about the Others and how important Ben was to the Island, and he quickly became one of my favorite characters. In season four, he became my very favorite. I don't see how people can watch episodes like "The Shape of Things to Come" and not love him, haha.
Rawr, and how can people watch episodes like "Dr. Linus" and not want to die with enjoyment? by far, my favorite character ever, in the land of television.
Really well painted portrait. I agree with everything you said about him. He is one of my favorite characters, too and looking forward to seeing how the show wraps up. New episode tonight!
This is fantastic! And I so felt for Ben in that moment where he says these words to Jacob! I so agree with you on season two-four in the layers of love for this character! Ben = awesome!
From his expression, to your painting... very well done. The lights and strokes are wonderful.
Ben definitely grew on me over the LOST seasons too. The most rich caracther, no doubt.
